Wooyun Kim was born in Daejon, South Korea. After attending Seoul Arts High School he studied at the Musikhochschule Köln with Professors Ralph Manno and Hans D Klaus. He is a winner of the Beijing International Music Competition, has won Second Prize at the Classic Winds and Saverio Mercadante Competitions and was placed Third at the Markneukirchen International Competition. He has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonisches Orchester Plauen-Zwickau, the Lübeck and Dejan Philharmonics and with Sinfonietta Köln. He has participated in master-classes with Martin Fröst, Karl Leister and Martin Spangenberg. Wooyun currently studies with Sabine Meyer at the Musikhoschule Lübeck, where he was the first Korean clarinetist to win a place.
