Tobias Niederschlag

Tobias Niederschlag (M.A.) was born in 1976 in the town of Olpe, Westphalia (Germany). He graduated in musicology, theatre studies as well as German language and literature from the LMU Munich with a thesis on Pierre Boulez (“Notations”. A comparison of the original piano version with the orchestral versions, 2003). He spent one year abroad with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. From 2003 to 2017 he worked as concert dramaturge for the Staatskapelle Dresden, where he was initially responsible for all the orchestra’s publications and later for planning the concert programmes. In October 2017 he took over the direction of the concert office of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Tobias Niederschlag is also co-founder and artistic director of the International Shostakovich Festival in Gohrisch (Saxon Switzerland), established in 2010, and still the only annual festival dedicated to this composer. He has produced numerous publications for the Saxon State Opera Dresden, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cologne Philharmonie as well as booklets for record labels such as Sony Music and Deutsche Grammophon.
