Carl Nielsen Orchestra Academy

Orchestra of young musicians from all over Denmark performing at the Opening Concert in 2016
The Carl Nielsen Orchestra Academy is a framework of joint activities between the Danish National Academy of Music (SDMK), Odense Symphony Orchestra and Odense Music School

SDMK is an arts academy under the Danish Ministry of Culture, offering music and performing arts programs at the highest level. During the Carl Nielsen International Competition, the Carl Nielsen Orchestra Academy will host masterclasses, and other events of music, among these the opening concert with Members of the Carl Nielsen Youth Academy and the Odense Symphony Orchestra.

The eight Danish music schools with preparatory courses for the music academies (Musikalske Grundkurser, MGK) as well as the three music academies continue as partners in the Carl Nielsen International Competition. In continuation of the celebratory opening concert at the last Carl Nielsen Violin Competition, the Carl Nielsen Youth Academy will again perform, this time together with members of the Odense Symphony Orchestra and the winners of the 2016 violin competition, Jiyoon Lee and Liya Petrova. The aim of the project is to inspire more children and young people to play an instrument as a tool to self-expression and communication, and to strengthen the musical foundation of the future music life in Danish orchestras.
