Carl Nielsen International Competition is looking for host families
Giving young musical talents the courage and belief in a career as an artist is, in addition to the competition itself, one of the main purposes of this year’s edition of the Carl Nielsen International Competition. 72 musicians from all over the world are invited to participate in the traditional music competition in Odense, which runs from 31 March to 10 April 2022.
In recent years, the competition has offered hotel accommodation to the participants as long as they participated in the competition. This meant that many of the young musicians had to travel back after just a few days in Odense, as they did not qualify for the following rounds. The competition’s new initiative Espansiva!, a workshop and coaching program, takes place throughout the competition. It is therefore very important for all participants that they have the opportunity to stay in Odense, even if they are no longer participating in the competition itself.
What is required?
Thus, Carl Nielsen International Competition is looking for host families in Odense who are interested in hosting one or more competition participants during the competition period. Earliest arrival is Wednesday 30 March, and departure is no later than Monday 11 April 2022. The requirement for the host family is that you make a room with a bed available, offer breakfast and give advice about the transportation to Odense Concert Hall. Lunch must be provided by the participant himself, and the competition offers dinner to all participants at Anarkist Beer and Food Lab in Odense. The host family should expect the participant to want to practice their instrument – it can be several hours a day.
What do I get in return?
Hosting for the Nielsen Competition is a unique opportunity to meet a young, talented musician and support his or her artistic development and career. In return for hosting, the host family will receive two “par tout” tickets for all activities with public access, and the host family will be invited to the farewell party in Odense Concert Hall on Sunday 10 April in the evening.
What do I need to do to become a host?
Write an e-mail to the competition’s project manager Finn Schumacker at finns@odense.dk, with whom you can also obtain further information about the hosting and the competition itself.
